@midnightgardener eryngiums are fantastic for bees, there's rarely a moment when they're not covered in bees👍

@gardengimp It's a shame I didn't sow my seeds of them then, next year I will though. I still get lots of Bees around they love the plants I've got. Salvia's are a favourite of theirs too and that makes me happy, as I love Salvias. 😁♥️♥️

@midnightgardener maybe you could sow now and overwinter the seedlings so you've got a head start next year? Is it Big Blue or another one you've got? I grow this, e.planum (bought as root cuttings, less hassle germinating seed) plus a rare one I've not added to the database yet. I love salvias too, there's nothing to not like 😊

@gardengimp Ah, so you can start them early as you can with Sweet Peas? I sowed them in Autumn after reading they benefit from a cold start, and it said they grow to be stronger plants. They worked well too. I can't say what type of Erig wotsit 😁I've got. They're in the greenhouse but I'll give it a go with them. Thank you for the suggestion 💙💙

@midnightgardener well to be honest I'm no seed growing expert, but I let mine seed in the border last year and now I've got hundreds of seedlings that appeared this spring, which sounds about right as I've read they need cold to germinate. Maybe sow in Autumn? Or you could go to Morrisons and get 3 fully grown plants for a fiver 😁

Oh a real omission @gardengimp especially with your skill Graham just pick the right place and we'll sort out a rose to fill it 😉

7w

@jpea I always thought of roses as too stereotypical of gardening, but I've come around to the idea since joining Garden Tags 😊I know a good north facing climber, in need that and a west facing climber. The sadly absent this year @RicardoListeretti recommended a great apricot/tan coloured rose, but it's going against a white wall and I need more contrast. I don't know what you mean about skill! 😂😄

Have a look at Whiskey Mac, lovely colour and there's a superb deep red scented climber but it's name eludes me at the moment. This rose will need support in the form of horizontal wires or a trellis though.

7w

gardengimp

I'm looking at Zephirine Drouhin, seems to tick all the boxes. Whiskey Mac also looking good, maybe there's somewhere east I can squeeze it in... 😆😁 I plan to use wire and barrel strainers to tension up 👍🏻@jpea

Well @cjh123 this is my first time growing sea holly. I'd say my only secret is garden compost. I mixed the excavated soil, compost and horticultural grit (roughly 30-30-40) in a bucket and backfilled the hole with the rootball in position. I also had a layer of grit under the rootball in the hole, as they like good drainage as well as humus rich soil to allow the roots to penetrate. I fed with liquid growmore every week until buds appeared and then switched to tomato feed. It's on a sunny west
