#eryngium-bigblue See Holly. Yes I do. She's big and blue. Violet Beauregarde springs to mind..

Beautiful

Fab 📷, beautiful dumpy thistle. See the Violet resemblance 🤣

@solly1961 😁 I like to write random cryptic comments every now and then!

That colour 🤤💙

I'm not sure about blue pink and yellow together @kez001uk 🤔 what do you reckon? I lack the woman's touch for colour and design! 😂😂

@gardengimp I love it as a combination! But as for a woman’s touch, my artistic eye has been blind since birth 🤣

Still better than mine 😊 Well if one person loves it that'll do for me 😄 @kez001uk

@gardengimp it has my vote, for whatever that’s worth 😛

#autumnblooms #eryngium #seaholly Still going 🤔😃

I love a sea holly, they have an amazing flower, second only to a rose

You just reminded me I still have zero roses in my garden @jpea, something I must remedy before next year

U can get some good rose bargains at this time of yr @gardengimp

I'll have a look around once pay day lands @brighton 😊👍🏻

Oh a real omission @gardengimp especially with your skill Graham just pick the right place and we'll sort out a rose to fill it 😉

@jpea I always thought of roses as too stereotypical of gardening, but I've come around to the idea since joining Garden Tags 😊I know a good north facing climber, in need that and a west facing climber. The sadly absent this year @RicardoListeretti recommended a great apricot/tan coloured rose, but it's going against a white wall and I need more contrast. I don't know what you mean about skill! 😂😄

Have a look at Whiskey Mac, lovely colour and there's a superb deep red scented climber but it's name eludes me at the moment. This rose will need support in the form of horizontal wires or a trellis though.

I'm looking at Zephirine Drouhin, seems to tick all the boxes. Whiskey Mac also looking good, maybe there's somewhere east I can squeeze it in... 😆😁 I plan to use wire and barrel strainers to tension up 👍🏻@jpea

Like it Graham, that's what I'm planning to use too 👍👍 @gardengimp

Love it 👍🏻

Woo the stems are going blue now, and it's growing more flower stems from the base.

Lovely to watch too.. @gardengimp

It is @stephent. Not bad for its first year

Its electric love it 💙

Certainly get a shock off it if you bend over too quick near the bugger @Keely!

Haha that's the only problem with them mine must be diff variety not as blue or big n spikey as this one 😁😁

I can't complain @Keely, it does what it said on the tin. Big. Check. Blue. Check. :D

Wow that looks amazing 😍😍

Do like sea holy 💙

I love sea holly they are so unusual..love the colour 😍

I love stuff like this @clickchick and roll my eyes at pansies, begonias, and hanging baskets

Gorgeous photo 😀

Thankyou Jean @clickchick :)

#seaholly

Love these but cant seem to grow them any secrets @gardengimp 🤔

#seaholly-advice

Beautiful @gardengimp

Well @cjh123 this is my first time growing sea holly. I'd say my only secret is garden compost. I mixed the excavated soil, compost and horticultural grit (roughly 30-30-40) in a bucket and backfilled the hole with the rootball in position. I also had a layer of grit under the rootball in the hole, as they like good drainage as well as humus rich soil to allow the roots to penetrate. I fed with liquid growmore every week until buds appeared and then switched to tomato feed. It's on a sunny west

West facing wall. Hope this helps!

Thank you @gardengimp will give it a try 🤔

I knew it was up to something

Great photo 👍

This happened this afternoon on an overcast rainy day, sure they will put in an appearance soon :) wondering to stake or not, it's not massively tall, hmm @linfoster

Just gorgeous...

Trip to wilkos for a support tomorrow @linfoster :) I'll be proper radged off if it breaks in the wind! Thanks

Cheers @stephent. Hopefully it will gradually go blue now :)

I lost a couple of aquilegias too, their flower heads battered down into the lawn by the rain and stems broken at the base :( Hope your cosmos only broke in the middle, you might get bushier plants?

@gardengimp that would be lovely...

More photos to come of course @stephent :)

@gardengimp.. I'd hoped you'd say that... Look forward to them😉

Know what you mean @yvette303a i got into bed last night and found a spike lodged in my finger! Ow! At least it's one the slugs won't touch ;)

He's enjoying that. I love to see Bees 💛💛🖤💙
@midnightgardener eryngiums are fantastic for bees, there's rarely a moment when they're not covered in bees👍
@gardengimp It's a shame I didn't sow my seeds of them then, next year I will though. I still get lots of Bees around they love the plants I've got. Salvia's are a favourite of theirs too and that makes me happy, as I love Salvias. 😁♥️♥️
@midnightgardener maybe you could sow now and overwinter the seedlings so you've got a head start next year? Is it Big Blue or another one you've got? I grow this, e.planum (bought as root cuttings, less hassle germinating seed) plus a rare one I've not added to the database yet. I love salvias too, there's nothing to not like 😊
@gardengimp Ah, so you can start them early as you can with Sweet Peas? I sowed them in Autumn after reading they benefit from a cold start, and it said they grow to be stronger plants. They worked well too. I can't say what type of Erig wotsit 😁I've got. They're in the greenhouse but I'll give it a go with them. Thank you for the suggestion 💙💙
@midnightgardener well to be honest I'm no seed growing expert, but I let mine seed in the border last year and now I've got hundreds of seedlings that appeared this spring, which sounds about right as I've read they need cold to germinate. Maybe sow in Autumn? Or you could go to Morrisons and get 3 fully grown plants for a fiver 😁
