@sieveheadsarah thanks - this is usually my first and last rose every year, but late this year. 3 bushes been here since I moved in (1993)! We had some building work done about a month ago - new pathing in back garden - builder left his ladders and planks leaning on the fence where roses are just as buds forming got squashed 😱 and they didn’t look like they were going to make it! But struggled on - they smell heavenly ❤️

I think roses are pretty indestructible Christine, this one looks like velvet 😍

It’s beautiful, I love the dark reds. I have black baccara but it’s struggled, 1 flower last year and then got put in a pot to move and replanted. It’s alive and I really hope it flowers this year.

I’d say you’re right Christine....I have Paul’s Scarlet and it’s similar but it only flowers once although it give me a smaller second flush last year and this is darker..🌹🌹🌹

@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom @midnightgardener Elaine, Chris there are 3 bushes of these by my back fence been there since I moved in here in 1993!!! Was told they are Black Boy but seems to fit the description - tall up to 6ft and climbers if left alone! These usually grow a couple of foot above my 4’ fence - I cut them back a couple of times a year. Don’t need to tie them as so close to fence. Always first out and generally a bloom still on one of them in Nov❤️

Hi Grandma fizzy I love roses, but I only have a back yard , so I have bought some large pots and I have just received 4 bare root roses from "Peter Beale's" in Norfolk so I will post pics as and when I get them.

@gjones Good morning Katy & Glyn neither my camera or iPhone do the colour justice it's just like very dark red velvet and the scent is heavenly. These were first out this year with loads of blooms . I chopped them down severely and now loads more buds 🌹🌹🌹💕 very old bushes 3 of them 😍
