Epilobium angustifolium syn. Chamaenerion angustifolium

Help me identify this plant, this has taken over an area but I am sure it’s not a weed, I let it grow this year to see how it develops.

I think this is in the #epilobium family #willowherb

Thank you looked it up is it a weed? It has taken over my flower bed (normally plant bedding plants but obvs not been to garden centre yet). Should I leave it and see what happens or remove them all! @daisyrozanne

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure it's a weed! I think I would remove them, but you could leave a few to see and if you let them flower, make sure you dead head before they set seed and spread even more 🤔

Thanks. I have no idea why is such a weed prone area. I leave it empty for bedding plants but it gets taken over by weeds. I may just till it and cover with black matting and try and suppress all the weeds. This weed looked better than others that have taken over the area in the past! Perhaps because I turn the soil over each year (new compost over last few years) before I plant it’s activating the weeds. I have a large arum lilly and some box hedges so don’t want to use a spray weed killer.
