@cyndi it was like 105 F that day 🙃😂

@cyndi i get alot of wind in summer sometimes up to 30mph so for a desert it always feels ok. Sometimes wind makes 105 feel like 80, but we stay a little cooler then city

@cyndi i just use a generator for now because i rarely use power, but when i use more imma build myself a solar array/wind turbine and both will be hooked into batteries for storage

@cyndi yup i hope so too, its cheaper then hooking into grid actually, solar and wind very cheap now, so if people know about options i feel this is the future just based on $

Question about your Peruvians... I recently took ownership of several mature cacti, potted. I presume it’s safer to leave them potted through winter (zone 9a) and assess if I want to ground plant in the spring? We rarely see cold below 40F, but I don’t want to risk these guys. I have some sectioned props that I’m willing to risk ground planting, I can cover when it gets cold, but I’ll drag the large into the garage if temps really drop. Or am I being too candya$$ about them?

@fearlessthereforepowerful it depends, these will be fine down to 30F without stress, 10-29F they will change colors and look sad. Under 10f and under hig chance of death, cover with shadecloth if temporary. Id leve outside if it is rare to see 40F, theyll grow much quicker outside. Where do you live because fall/early winter is actually best time to plant anything so it gets less hot sun, and rain in winter to establish. Lol no you are not overreacting lol. I had same questions at 1 time

Thanks for taking the time. These are special to me, two of them came from Garfield Park Conservatory, so I’d like to make sure I don’t damage any of them. I’m in St Augustine, FL so there is a real risk of hurricanes here. I was thinking I may leave them potted just so I have options to bring into shelter. That poses another question - one is about 8’. I may have to lay him down if I ever needed to bring him in for a hurricane. How bad would that be???

These do well in pots. If you have to house them you can cut one the cuttings at the top off. The cut with sprout 2 new branches out of it, an u can replant the head. If you brought in and put sideways it wouldnt be bad, it will grow really funky but wont die. Just turn it when you can to have even light coverage.

This peruvian apple cactus' flowers🌸 are ready to open up at night for the bats 🦇 i sadly havent made any night runs to my farm lately, so i havent seen any flowering, but many have been pollinated. I cant wait to see the bats lol. My agaves are also pollinated by bats. Alot of people dont give bats the time of day, they are very helpful to ecosystems. #peruvianapplecactus #cactus #cacti #fallfruit #summerflowers #gyo #fruit #growyourown #food #permaculture #ediblelandscaping #foodscaping

Check out how many flowers this peruvian apple cacti has. There are like 6 small ones up in coming too! All the peruvian apple cacti orchard cuttings have flowers and this fall/winter ill have my 1st harvests 😀👌 i thought these were ready by summer like common mexican pitayas(organ pipe cactus) but after some more research today i found out these fruit later then alot of other cacti, which are usually fruiting in summer. That is probably due to it being from south america. Super exited for all
