Thanks all, it's a romantic notion but as this old Apple tree is slowing dying and at least half of it is already dead, I have planted the rambling Rose to breath new life and at least enjoy the structural shape of the tree draped in delicate pink rose petals.

How lovely. I planted a Zephirine Drouin up my Apple tree. It's starting to take off but is a bit prone to blackspot. Your rose looks wonderfully healthy. Does it have scent?

Yes @davieberg it's highly scented I selected it for its vigorous arching habit, the scent and because it's delicate pink blooms remind me of apple blossom.

I guess musk in its name was a bit of a clue!

I use a mix of compost tea and canola oil plus a few drops of liquid molasses on all our Roses and the results speak for themselves! Very little black spot, mildew kept in check very few greenfly and lots of ladybirds #chemicalfree

How do you get an emulsion between the compost tea and the rapeseed oil? A lot of vigorous shaking?

I add a teaspoon of washing up liquid and shake. I also vary the recipe depending on the season. The full recipe check out my blog and search compost tea 👍
