Decided to see which of the 2 recommended ways to propagate from seed is the best. The one on the left has just been left in coldframe. The one on the right was put in a plastic bag, put in the fridge for 3 weeks, then put into the airing cupboard with the doors open so it had both heat and light. Appears the coldframe wins on this occasion 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱 @pelly #seed #seeds #propagation-seeds #aquilegia

Relieved the easier option was the best. Not sure my husband would appreciate seeds taking over the fridge! 😂😂 @anges

The coldframe is definitely the winner there. I did mine on a warm windowsill and that worked well too 👍

Cataloguing - excited to receive these in the post today. These will be the first seeds to go into my new coldframe. Aquilegia and Hollyhocks. Thank you so much Jane 😀 😘 @pelly

Just read up on sewing Aquilegia seeds and getting VERY different info. Has anyone successfully sewn aquilegia seeds and if so, how did you do it please? #advice

I bought Green Apples as a barefoot plant from Wilko. It's such a great colour, you won't be disappointed. I didn't actually bring it with me to the new garden so I'm going to grow it from seeds I collected last year. ☺️ @italydiva

I grew some aquilegia from seed and disregarded the advice on the packet. I sowed it same as everything else. Use fresh sowing compost, water it in, seeds on the surface, then lightly cover with more compost and then I cover the pots with cling film and secure it with twine. They sit indoors on a windowsill but out of direct sun. I sowed the seeds in May last year and they flowered the following spring.

I’ve seen photos of them and they look gorgeous Urszula. I’ve read various sources...some say sew directly. Some say put in fridge for 3 weeks and then somewhere warm. Other sources say in greenhouse/coldframe. I’m a bit confused as what to do? 🤔 @ublaszko

You are very welcome Angela. As for sowing them I'm not the best person to ask as I don't have much success with them and like you say the information varies so much. I'm going to try a period of cold stratification this time ( put seeds on damp kitchen roll, seal in a plastic bag and put them in the fridge for four weeks) and see if that works 🤔

I thought it was too much pfuff to keep them in the fridge and I never have luck growing seeds direct because I have clay soil so I grew them on a windowsill. I'd say keep them warm initially as germination requires heat but the your can move them to a coldframe.

I sowed mine at the end of June and put them in my mini greenhouse for a few weeks. Then when I potted them on I put them on a north facing windowsill in the house. They've grown quite well and I've just put them back in my mini greenhouse and will plant them in their final place in the border in October some time when they're a bit bigger. Hope this helps and doesn't confuse 🙂 I'll post an update photo later and tag you 💚 Mine are Lime Sorbet 😋
