Help me identify this plant. Seen a few here in Kansas. Referred to as apple trees but not like any apples I've ever seen. More like tennis balls!

Is it Ugli Fruit? A citrus fruit, hybrid of grapefruit, orange and tangerine.

Thanks Di, I think you're spot on having googled it. The Latin name would also suggest it is an apple (of a very strange form)! @Di007

Common name i learned is Osage orange also called bodark and hedge apple the scientific name is correct. Saw them in Kansas and elsewhere in the US. Used as cheap fencing long ago as they can grow close together and have thorns to keep animals penned in. Also Native Americans like to make bows from the wood of its branches.🤗
