Common name i learned is Osage orange also called bodark and hedge apple the scientific name is correct. Saw them in Kansas and elsewhere in the US. Used as cheap fencing long ago as they can grow close together and have thorns to keep animals penned in. Also Native Americans like to make bows from the wood of its branches.🤗
Help me identify this plant. Seen a few here in Kansas. Referred to as apple trees but not like any apples I've ever seen. More like tennis balls!
Is it Maclura pomifera?
Is it Ugli Fruit? A citrus fruit, hybrid of grapefruit, orange and tangerine.
Ah! I looked at the Maclura Pomifera - certainly looks like one!
Thanks Di, I think you're spot on having googled it. The Latin name would also suggest it is an apple (of a very strange form)! @Di007
I can see where you're coming from Val & it is very ugly😁. @valjones-hughes
Googled it myself jeff.. not that knowledgeable not yet 🤣 🤔 💡
You did well to find it without a name @Di007 👍
It really is so weird @gjones

Interesting stuff Michelle. Thanks for the info👍. Still one of the strangest plants I've seen over here by some way! @purplebird
Yes, I always thought it was strange looking too and have seen them since I was a kid🤗
