Thought I’d brighten up these Canna pots with homegrown coleus

Canna update. Opening nicely. We had a nice sunny afternoon which will have done some good 💛❤️

At last. The first of this year’s Cannas to flower. Not sure if any of the others will Flower now. They might need more sun than they are getting. It’s starting to feel Autumnal in the evenings and early mornings.

No sign of any flowers on mine 😢😢

Calling canna experts. Both pots of cannas are showing these big fat buds. Is there anything I need to do with them? Also advice on overwintering gratefully received. Eg do I cut the foliage down? @porto @alan1111

Dig them up and separate them by popping them apart with your hands. Knock off all the dirt and cut off the foliage. Store indoors where they will be dry on cardboard or paper bag. Plant again in spring! 😊

Not scary after the first one! ! I have been doing it for years. You can do it and have some to share!!

Just make sure you don't plant them upside down in the spring.😄

You can store, or, you can separate, leave them to dry for 24 hours and then repot in and store in a frost free space overwinter. Then plant out in Spring once threat of frost has passed. Lots of lovely free plants 😍

I just cut mine down to about 3" place a mulch on top & store away in my garage before the first frost right through until the the last frost of next year 👌... @jendren 😏

P.S those buds will be next seasons growth @jendren 👌😉

@nessas. Glad to hear things are OK. Hamish hates this heat as do I. I have to work in a hot kitchen lol. Hamish has a cooling mat, which he sits on saved the use of fan and cooler unit.

I bought Harry a cooling mat and he refuses to sit on it! He prefers to pant and shoot me dirty looks! @simon50
