OMG. I wish you were my neighbor too. Some of my seeds didn’t come out I think the dirt was to cold because I seeded and we got hit with weeks of cold and cloudy weather but I do have some. When did you start seeding and where did you keep them until they came up???😊😊

@terrimclaughlin everything is indoors under lights right now. How I'm going to make that work this weekend when I add a ton more, now that's the question. I can't plant anything outside for another five weeks at least. 😳

Ageratum plants may be started from seed when the soil has warmed outside. Cover seeds lightly, as seeds of ageratum plants need sunlight to germinate. For an early start to blooms of the ageratum flower, start seeds indoors eight to 10 weeks before planting in the spring garden.

Sow from late winter to mid spring at 15-18C (59-64F) in a good seed compost. Sow ageratum seed on the surface of the compost and gently firm down. Keep soil damp but not wet. Do not exclude light. Germination usually takes 10-15 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow them on in cooler conditions until large enough to plant outdoors.

When ageratum plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Transplant outdoors in a sheltered position in full sun on moist, fertile, well drained soil at a distance of 15-30cm (6-12") apart.

Ageratum blooms from midsummer until first frost. Floss Flower is extremely versatile, and it is ideal for bedding displays or as a potted plant. The size and color makes this Ageratum a good candidate for rock gardens, flower beds, and containers. Ageratum Houstonianum likes to grow in full sun or partial shade and prefers moist, but well-drained soil. Ageratum is an excellent plant for beginner gardeners.

#companionplants Because of their short stature, most varieties of ageratum are best used for edging or borders of flowerbeds, in rock gardens, or in containers. Blue varieties are particularly attractive when combined in the garden with pink-flowering plants. Combine soft blue-flowering varieties of ageratum with pink begonias (Begonia spp.) for a low, pastel ground cover, or mass them with short yellow marigolds (Tagetes spp.) or cockscomb (Celosia spp.) for greater contrast.
