@ripjuju I agree! That’s why I remember them from when I was a kid in Hawaii. The bark would peel off in long strips, and I always thought their trunks looked like rainbows. And the smell is amazing!

@leno I grew up surrounded by them! I read that they were introduced to California by Australians during the gold rush, and brought on to Hawaii as well in the early 1900s.

@columbiariver I was pretty excited about my canna lilies grown from seed... this... I can imagine my son talking about it when he grows up. 😁

@columbiariver it says on the package 100-180 feet. We’ve got pines that size all around us. But the question is whether it will survive our winters. Originally, seeds were given to me by a friend from Tasmania. I have two small babies growing from the seeds he gave me. I remember them from Hawaii. The bark is gorgeous. 💕

@jennlamaye I didn’t think anything of this until I realised you’re in the US! 😂 I love gum trees - probably because I’m surrounded by them lmao. Now all you need are some koalas 🐨

@abbeyj funny!! I kinda remember a song about a kookaburra bird in an old gum tree... funny we sang about that in Hawaii. If my little trees make it I’ll have to remember to hang a koala stuffed animal from it. My son would love that! (And I can’t keep track of where everyone is from on here now. I started following everyone on the other side of the world when I got tired of winter over here. 😆)

@columbiariver need some shade? 😉 Lol. I don’t know if it’ll handle our winters, but I’m going to try.
