My 5 yr old and I spend a lot of time outdoors in our garden oasis. I love flowers, cottage garden style! #GTseedfairy 💕USDA Zone 8b; Sunset Zone 7

#lobelia that I nearly killed last week. Being sick and trying to maintain hundreds of baby plants is not the best combo. They are acclimating outdoors in makeshift greenhouses (aka clear totes) that I cover at night. We're still low 40s in the evenings.

@Mikekally they are! I almost wonder if that's a little bud starting in the middle!

Do you have them under a heat lamp or indoors? Mine are still tiny and they went down two weeks before yours!

@Mikekally directly under lights. About two inches under. And temp in room is about 70 degrees.

Ah cool, mine are in an unheated greenhouse so they're doing ok considering! I'm going with the tough love approach this year (I've been banished from the windowsills)

@Mikekally the real challenge for me is going to be acclimating my babies in six weeks. Looking forward to having a greenhouse next year. 😉

@abbeyj the lights sit nearly on top of them (2-3 inches away). I think that had made a difference. 💕

Lobelia seeds can be sown directly in the garden or indoors for later transplanting. These plants typically require an area with full sun but will tolerate partial shade. They also prefer moist, rich soil. Start indoors about 10 to 12 weeks prior to the last frost in your region. #sowindoors February 15th on soil

Spread the tiny seeds just on top of the soil and water thoroughly. Place them in a warm, well-lit area. Read more at Gardening Know How: Annual Lobelia Plant: How To Grow Lobelia https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/lobelia/lobelia.htm

The seedlings should pop up within a week or two, at which time you can begin thinning them out. After all danger of frost is gone and the plants are at least 2 to 3 inches tall, transplant them to the garden—spacing about 4 to 6 inches apart.
