Hi Jen, do you know what? I think this is something else. That flower looks very different to a helichrysum & I didn't have any white ones. I wonder what's happened?😯 🤔

Oh interesting!! Now that I think about it, it's kinda looking like a nicotinia. It was the only ones that germinated in that tray so I didn't think about it. Lol. Thanks for the heads up! @jeatacake

Certainly looks more like a nicotiana than a helichrysum 🤔

The only #helichrysum baby to make it. Now I need to find a really good home for this baby... @jeatacake 😉

Oh gosh, only one 😮 They are usually quite tough, although not frost hardy, but that won't be a problem now. It should grow on well now & flower soon 🤞🤞🤞 Good luck👍

#sowdirect directly seeded into your flower garden or started indoors for transplanting later. If planting outdoors, sow them just a few days before the last frost date for your area. Sow Strawflower seeds, covering them lightly with soil. Space seeds or seedlings 18" apart to give these big plants ample room to grow.

#sowindoors March 15th - sow indoors 6 – 8 weeks before last frost. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 18-21°C (65-70°F). Seeds should sprout in 5-20 days.

Sow seeds on the surface of the soil, as they need light to germinate. Water from below or use a mister to avoid disturbing the seeds. Space 30-45cm (12-18″) apart, and only transplant once the night time temperatures are consistently above 10°C (50°F).

Sultane strawflower seeds are particularly uniform, so they tend to all be in bloom at once from summer to late fall. Cut flowers as needed for arrangements and drying, and deadhead any spent flowers that you are not going to use. Doing a second sowing, two to three weeks after the first, will produce a longer bloom time.

#companionplanting Cornflowers are attractive to butterflies and pollinators of all kinds. They attract predatory hoverflies. Plant them any place where aphids are a nuisance.
