We have one in a pot, would it be better in the ground?

It depends I think @ad73am - in a pot you could move it around to create different spaces in the garden but it's easier to maintain in a garden. If I could move mine I probably would as its in a bizarre place but is a bit big to shift now!

Could people help me to identify this plant please? I'm assuming it's some sort of willow?

Salix "Kilmarnock" perhaps?

Oooh possibly @Opuntia - I've googled it and it looks similar. Although mine is much thicker than the standard ones. Probably because it's been neglected for years. I love willows. Thanks for the suggestion 😊
