I love delphiniums but they always seem to become slug food before they get established. Any top tips on how to stop this happening?

Hello Loretta 👋 to be fair this is my first year of having this and its planted amongst a host of other things too. I have just used a few slug pellets in late Spring and thats it, no reapplication and all seems to have been fine. Maybe i've just been lucky? @LLW

Hmmm might be because slugs love my garden? I've given up on slug pellets, not just because they're wildlife unfriendly but because ive found that slugs and snails just congregate where there aren't any! I do have a pair of blackbirds and a thrush who seem to eat a few but when it comes to soft leaved plants it's still party time. My solution these days is to simply grow stuff which is happy and let it do it's thing. Red hot pokers and oriental poppies do well, delphiniums, verbascum don't!
