@kat4167 I never made Sofrito but I looked it up and most is tomato rather than tomatillo I see. I use tomatillos in sauces of all kinds and of coarse salsa verde. I’ve got a pile of them in the husk filling now. Fun to grow.
@tkept thanks, maybe I'll try to grow some. My mother in law would be thrilled if I succeed. How would I even start growing them? I have no idea. I've always been into gardening and flowers. I grew up with a large vegetable garden in our backyard and my grandma always had beautiful flowers. Unfortunately, I didn't inherit the green thumb. Any advice on growing plants would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!
@kat4167 Hi Kelly. Tomatillos , cape Gooseberries are very easy to grow and save seeds. If you have ever planted tomato seeds and grown tomatoes there is not much difference in technique. Go to your local grocery store. Buy a tomatillo, usually they will be by the hot peppers. They will look like a giant cape gooseberry but green. There is not enough room on here to explain it all. YouTube has many good videos or shoot me a email at tkept@yahoo.com and I’ll be happy to send you info.Tom
@tkept thanks. Do you know anything about growing roses from seeds? I have a lot of different seeds. I have not been able to grow a single one of them! Someone told me that I may have to cold smack them. Would that help with any flower seeds?
@kat4167 I only tried roses from seed once and they rotted on me. My flower seeds I just let dry good and store them in a paper envelope until spring and have had good luck. I bet @cyndi would be more help on roses than I.
Thanks @tkept @cyndi @sweetskeletons I watched some videos on YouTube about it. I'm going to be moving soon so I'm going to try a few seeds of the different plants I have and see how it goes. I'll be in touch and make sure I post any of my success.
This is what the forming lanterns look like today (7/31/18). The first photos were taken on 7/20/18.
@kat4167 Those lanterns look similar to my tomatillos when they are forming. Fun to grow.
@tkept yes they do. Sofrito right? My mother in law makes a lot of it every year.
