I love growing unusual and interesting things and am teaching my son to love it too. I have a tiny mostly potted garden in Newcastle NSW.

@latebloomer It's a nice mild afternoon here - perfect for digging in the sandpit with Liam 😉 My tree is about 12 years old and only about 1m high (I keep it small cause it's sooooo spiky!). I use the fruit mostly in salads in place of dressing - you don't get the lime on every bite, only when you crunch into them!

@latebloomer Forgot to say... goes really well with baby spinach leaves, roasted sweet potato, cucumber and a bit of goats cheese :)

@latebloomer You are more than welcome so long as you bring both 😉 I just saw that you're in Bathurst so I could post you some later in the year. I always end up with way too many for me to eat!!!

@s1066 they are super easy and super resilient. hardy get any pests (scale, caterpillars sometimes - never had anything worry the fruit). fruits about 9 months of the year and they last a long time in the tree

@s1066 they r fringe shrubs so like semi-shade to full sun. mine is in our deck (under a transparentish plastic roof) in a terra cotta pot. they respond really well to feeding and pruning. spikey as hell tho!! :)

@s1066 I LOVE it and definitely recommend you get one. Mine is grafted which I also recommend (seedlings seem to be less robust). When selecting don't get a weedy one as they don't seem to grow into really robust shrubs.

@kathyb just did some googling and there are so many varieties of grafted finger limes- can u recommend one???

8w

KathyB

@s1066 mine is most likely rainforest ruby (pips start green then go pink as they get older and sweeter) however I got mine before they were popular and had so many named varieties! 😊 Daleys has a good selection and they always supply quality healthy plants. They ship all over aus.

@s1066 Happy to help. They are great trees. The fruit goes especially well in salad instead of dressing - baby spinach, cherry tomatos, goat's cheese and roast kumera 😆 Yum!

@s1066 they are great in G&Ts but you have to remember to crunch the little balls otherwise you swallow them without tasting! 😢

Cavier of the plant world. #kathyB

@leisel yes I grew this one. It is a reallt tough plant - as been in the ground, dug up and moved with me when I moved house. Gets a vicious pruning every year cause I want it to stay small. Nothing phases it and despite my rough treatment it is a really good cropper - I get fruit most of the year round.

@leisel and they taste great in salads!!! goats cheese, cherry tomatoes, baby spinach and roasted sweet potato... perfect!! :)

@brightcolours @KathyB exactly what I'm after. Want to graft it on a flying dragon to dwarf it! 😃

9w
comment
KathyB

@drnicko Mine is grafted though the Australian labels rarely tell you the root stock :( They're easy enough to keep small with pruning if the flying dragon doesn't take :)

9w
comment
KathyB

@nicko Doesn't seem to be prone to many pests either. A little bit of scales, caterpillars sometimes and tiny spiders sometime buld webs between the spines distorting the growing shoots but nothing dramatic. Even citrus leaf miner generally leave it alone. Def worth growing!!
