Help me identify this plant... I found these in an unlabelled bag 3 years ago. They have come up but not flowered every year since. This is the first time they've flowered. Obviously a narcissus but what sort????
Lovely yellow 😍💛. It can be quite difficult often to ID daffodils I find as there are over 10,000 different registered cultivars. However, here’s a couple of pointers - measure the height of the flowering stalk, note if it’s blooming early in the daff season, mid or late (ours runs from Jan right through to June depending on variety, not sure what it would be in Oz 🤔), colour of trumpet/cup, colour of outer perianth segments around the cup, and the number of flower heads per stalk (approx)
Then, you can try using the American Daffodil Societies excellent search database where you can input the above data and narrow it hopefully down to something which is easier to filter through. Some have photos too for comparison. It’s at www.daffseek.org
Your welcome! You might still end up with about 50-100 possibilities but always better than 10,000 😂😖. There will be a few double headed yellows for sure.
I don’t have much more to add to @richard.spicer.7906 suggestions. Which are excellent. It’s a Y-Y, obviously. I could add to try taking one to a local daffodil club if you have one. Members will know what grows in your region and might be able to provide some suggestions @richard.spicer.7906

I’m sure @janetandjim will also have a few good tips for ID daffs - I recall they judge, show and grow lots of narcissus much much more than me 😉
