I love growing unusual and interesting things and am teaching my son to love it too. I have a tiny mostly potted garden in Newcastle NSW.

Tetragonolobus purpureus syn. Lotus tetragonolobus

I just can't find decent, purpose-designed plant supports in Australia (if Bunnings doesn't think there's a market it's pretty much impossible get it where I live) - so I've had to go rogue. These are pot stands but with a bit of string, they have worked perfectly for the asparagus peas and smaller dahlias! I can't wait to see what else I can use them for!

I have used bamboo stakes and twine before! The heavy duty frames of thrift store lampshades work well too! #whateverworks

@KariSamuel I normally use bamboo and string but it's so messy and often doesn't last a full season with our high UV etc. I hadn't thought of old lampshades tho! I'll have to keep my eye out!

@gjones so I actually looked up how to cook them (rolling my eyes at myself). Boiled for 2 min then mixed with a but if butter there's no more dry-mouth and I quite like them... not getting much of an asparagus vibe but they have a nice mouth texture.

As the flowers age they seem to fade to a rusty-ish sort of red.

This is one of the advantages to using toilet rolls inside seed trays. The tray is full of water but the seedling isn't water-logged.

@latebloomer It's raining like crazy here this week! But next week it could easily be dry and windy so the reservoir comes in handy if I get home too late to water.
