@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom all my foliage goes yellow and falls off so I'm just left with loads of lanterns its always done that mine is in shade though and I hardly even water it as its years old now so well established cant even kill it off lol

@jeatacake mines about 8yrs old Jeff in a pot roots are very well established the runners broke through pot last year, shame your not closer as can easily be split it gets that full in its pot, you could have had some no way would this one die 🙄

@linfoster they are awful if they are in a border took me 2 years to eventually get them all out of front border, since then its been kept in a big pot as I love the plant for autumn but not the roots for a border you did right thing 😃

Mine still has a few yellow leaves but only about 6 lanterns nothing looking as lovely as yours. I have split a couple of the fruit and sown the seeds in a small seed tray,who knows...

@Jasonsparkes1 didn't think these would be easy to kill off roots are runners this is that strong it is now in its 3rd pot I have to cut off roots at bottom every couple of years 🙄 mine is about 6 years old though was just split from one of mums plants, not sure what you could be doing Jason its a mystery 🤔

I've mine planted in the South facing bed in a sheltered position it was wondering if after they've finished fruiting (fair few green lanterns on it) should I wrap in a fleece or dig it up to pot and place it in the greenhouse? @Keely

@jpea I leave mine in pot and cut it right back in Spring I often have to split it they are vigorous as they are runners Jeremy 😣

Lovely Keely. I threw mine out a couple of weeks ago. It was a sorry looking thing with just one lantern on it and yellowing leaves 😏

I have not tried them. Lol. I was hoping you had. I have seen that you can use to make sauce, as you would maybe a pasta sauce. They look, to me like they would be more like tiny tomatillos. Hmmm...🤔... Now I'm really intrigued.

Hi Ann @farmora yes easy to grow but invasive so i keep mine in a pot buried in soil, took it out this year as once its finished it needs splitting as too big for pot so will reduce it ready for next year, its about 5' high this year 😊

@debs69 yes very but are runners so this is buried in a pot in the ground as I had it in the front originally and it spread all over so lesson learnt, loads of lanterns on it its thrived this year with all the rain

Is it the edibles type I've got one no flowers yet

This has shot up with all rain and now getting its buds on

Chinese lantern starting to come up , its planted in a pot sunken to stop it from spreading like wildflower!
