Cut it off and root it @kelsey92

Where would I cut it at. @Dragon_Warrior

@kelsey92 Cut off less than 1/3 of the tree just above a node. That node will push out new growth. It will thank you for it next year as you will be telling to focus on root growth this year.

How do I cut it off with what tool. @Dragon_Warrior

@kelsey92 Get a good pair of pruners. I was told to get Felco pruners but I haven’t gotten them yet. I just got a cheap pair from Amazon. Although it definitely depends on the girth of the tree. I slaughtered my fig tree with the cheap pair. Luckily it survived but I still need some good pruners.

You do need a good pruner Kelsey. The trunk circumference doesn't look that big.

Would I wait until the trunk gets bigger until I do anything yet. @KariSamuel

Kelsey, if you change your encyclopedia link to Apple 'Fuji' you will have all of the growing information you need, with the EXCEPTION of pruning instructions! So, I use Google. There are a ton of videos & articles about pruning apple trees in Illinois. Most importantly, they recommend only when the tree is in dormancy. (So not now)

Should dwarf fruit trees be pruned? Prune dwarf fruit trees when you plant them, before growth starts, and again each year in late winter or early spring. Wait until the coldest part of the winter has passed and before the tree starts to leaf out or produce sap. @KariSamuel

Ok.... You answered your own question! Prune each year in late winter or early spring.

Our garden center recommends all fruit trees to be topped after production and dormant. They suggest keeping trees within the size that allow you to enjoy all the fruit safely. Hope this helps.

@KariSamuel 2 to 3 years Two varieties are required for successful pollination; one can be a crabapple. Dwarf apple trees will start bearing fruit 2 to 3 years after planting. Standard size trees can take up to 8 years to bear fruit.

It was most likely a verified stock piece that is more than 2 years from starting. You may have gotten it when it was already 2 years old.
