My seeds from last year.. cross pollination? Normally red (some are, some are like this) #nasturtium #empressofindia #yellow #red #nasturtiumchallenge

Like that one Kyle ❤️💛

Lovely 😊

I love this one

@Tara_H

That is very pretty! Would work better in the back garden for me though since that's yellow/orange themed! Did you have yellow ones the previous year?

I think I did, I blame the bees! @Tara_H

If only those bees could be more organised! 😂 🐝🚦🌺

I'm interested to see how my seeds go this year with 11 different varieties next to each other 😏 I'll give most of them away again like last year on here @Tara_H

So over the weekend a few have shown their faces - looks like we have a rogue seedling! #nasturtiumchallenge

They are tasty in salad as well as beautiful

There's always one who has to be different! 😅

So, when do you transplant them to other pots or into the ground?

@DaveInAl - I don't! This is their one and only place - sowed direct

Ok. The #nasturtiumchallenge begins - sowing 4 today and 4 on Friday next week to stagger the flowers hopefully. This is #empressofindia which will be #red flowers #nasturtium

Oo and these too 👌 😆 @kyleleonard

#nasturtium 🌺

Very bright and cheerful pic on a dreary day Kyle 😊👍

That's a beauty 😍

What a colour!

Gorgeous! I have to get some nasturtiums 😊

@Tara_H - ever had them in your garden before?

Used to have them all the time when I was a kid; just looking at that picture brings back the smell and taste! I always liked nibbling on the leaves 😁

@Tara_H - I like them as I can't always see the garden I tend that often (parents) so last few years all my seeds have been fails apart from nasturtium which is so easy to grow direct, which is why I love it right now. I have 13 different varieties I'm going to grow this year 🙃

I love nasturtiums and grow them every year. Are these in a very sheltered spot? They are very early.

@dandelion1 - these are last year 🙈 sorry! The garden I do is a tip right now as I plastered the hallway before Christmas so still moving some rubble. Just like to post pictures I haven't posted yet on here to keep me active

Well that's a relief! And a very good idea to add cheery pictures. ☺

@dandelion1 - indeed! What nasturtium varieties do you normally grow?

Lovely....

Tasty for salads !

I was watching the feature on them on The One Show. Had no idea they make a great pesto! Going on my list for my edibles patch!

@beckers1974 - leaves have a peppery taste! Have to beat the aphids

Would thyme help with that? Supposed to be good to plant around roses!

Beautiful colour

Great idea ☺ Thank you Sir.

Love these. Tasty too. 🍴👍🏻

Kyle's Gardening Tip of the Day: Sow Nasturtium seed where the roots will be restricted, as it produces more flower. I have 4 plants in tiny pots and they produced all these seed (so a lot of flowers as you can imagine) and I sowed some in an open patch which had spread over 4 foot - not a single flower all summer, just foliage #nasturtium #tip Next year I'm going to grow a lot of different varieties, been collecting off the #seedswap2016 too 😏 if anyone has any recommendations please tell me

I've also heard they don't like fertile soil a old saying is to pot them in the sweepings from the greenhouse floor 😀

I love Nasturtiums...I have had huge success with these until mid summer! Sadly I had to remove all of them due to black fly menace! I will probably have just one or two next year in a container.

I've just planted some seed and was planning on putting them (with other things) in hanging baskets. I was worried they'd hate it but from the looks of that I should get a great display! ☺

@kyleleonard thanks for the tip Kyle, I'm going to grow mine in small pots anyway as they are going in the birdcages next year. So I hope lots of flowers then! 😀🤔😃

@hayleyaj - I sat down and counted, over 250 seeds in this pile. They also look better as smaller clumps 😗 good luck next year

@kyleleonard beats counting sheep!! Lol. Great tips thanks Kyle 😀😂😂

Love the red tinge around the leaves! 😍😍

I saw Nasturtiums growing in Munich's botanical garden in 2013 and always wanted to grow them in small clumps, I think they flower better and look better contained @KathyB also a fan of the red tinge to the leaves 😎

Def less chaotic in small clumps! 😊

Look better in general! I think they plant them in pots in the ground. If you compare to the other nasturtiums in the big clump, hardly any flowers, if any at all @KathyB
