I live in Southern Minnesota 4b. I am currently really excited about my wetland gardens, my rain gardens, my mini orchard, and perennial vegetables.

That looks a lot like something that grows in the mountains here. Are the leaves edible?

@sabbanrula yes the leaves are edible. It is an annual here.

🤔 then they must be the same. There is an old dish made of their leaves. My mom cooks it once a year when they first appear in the mountains. Says it’s full of vitamins 😄😄

@sabbanrula how does it taste? I tried uncooked horseradish leaves yesterday. I thought they were bitter tasting. Maybe they taste better cooked. It is interesting to try edible plants that are not found in the grocery store.

Exactly Annette. I’m always intrigued when I find an edible plant. For this one we chopped up the leaves and sautéd them with chopped onions then added salt, pepper and hot paprika. When finished my mom squeezed a lemon on top and we ate them with bread. It was a different taste but I liked them. You can see now that the spices played a part in the taste, but I believe it’s very healthy to eat such home grown or naturally found plants.
