I planted these about 20+ years ago. They flowered the first year or so then nothing until 2 years ago when I had 3 flowers. Last year I had nothing and this year I have 2. What am I doing wrong. I have a large clump in a border facing south. It could be that it’s under a tree that was seeded by a bird around that time
I only have one flower stem no flowers yet - it was in flower when I planted it 3 years ago!!

#bestof2018 these agapanthus were totally unexpected. I had foliage for years but never any flowers. It was such a wonderful surprise for me when they flowered
Hope they flower again this year.

#flashbackfriday I was so thrilled with these agapanthus that flowered this year for the first time in maybe 20 years
Wow! That's incredible. You've got some patience.
Forgot all about them. Such a lovely surprise 💙💙

Now my question is, these are about to flower for the first time in around 20 years. I am so excited but am terrified they will get mauled like the lilies. I am thinking of putting a plastic bag over the buds to@protect them until they flower. Will that help? @advice @midnightgardener @mikethegardener @ublaszko @mrsflowerpot @Williamson
I wouldn’t put anything over the buds Faigie as they may cause the bud to rot. Agapanthus are fairly resilient against bugs and slugs so they should be ok. I would maybe stake the flower stalk and tie in loosely though. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 if your agapanthus has never flowered in all that time maybe it is in the wrong place for its needs. They like sunny, free draining but moist conditions and also like to have their roots restrained. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you @mrsflowerpot. I hope they will be ok then. Hopefully I can post a picture when the flower
I think they'll be fine, I had them in a tub for years they flowered and then sometimes they didn't but I think I left them in my old garden need to get more information luv them x😊

@librarian I would say no to plastic I'm going by Monty Don's rule for harvesting seeds really. But wouldn't plastic spoil the plant surely. If it's no good for seeds I wouldn't chance it with a flower or plant. 😊😊
Yes I thought as much. Just have to hope and pray they will be ok
@librarian hi mine are also tiny leaves with no sign of flower but just reading comments maybe they need to go back in a pot-mine I mean??
