Don't give up! Try cutting the top and bottom off of a 2 ltr pop bottle and push into the soil around the shoot, it should keep the blighters off until they get away x

I had the very same problem at my old house. Where I am now is largely slug & snail free. The snails are the biggest culprits. 😟
