Is the bottom supposed to feel some what mushy? I water it once a week but only a little and I make sure it doesn't have wet feet

Possibly root rot. Only water it when soil is completely dry. It holds water in the bulb for storage. Do you use a succulent soil mix? @littlelisa

You might need to repot it and make sure you have a good succulent mix. @littlelisa

I’m with @kimguy I believe u might want to repot just be careful cause they have very thin roots along the basis of the trunk I’d get it real wet and bang it gently before I carefully remove it. I have a few in my profile if you’d like to look at mine they were small when I first got them or google images of root system of pony tail palms

@littlelisa I’m really not good at giving advice but I would read up on the ponytail palm but I do have mine in a cactus type soil you can by at Lowe’s I’d just b real careful because of those roots go up maybe to a 7inch diameter pot or at least a pot that’ll give it two more inches from base go to a nursery in your area ask for someone who knows about your palm. I just don’t want to give u wrong advice. They say they hold water in that base that’s why it’s called an elephant foot. Read up🤗🤗

@littlelisa just read ur palm is mushy I would right away repot it in dry cactus soil it’s rotting that base does hold water I water when top 1-2 inches dry make sure new pot has a lot of drainage holes ask ur nursery guy for good pot it needs dry soil right now or you’ll lose it for sure. Have someone help u if you can so u won’t rip those base roots it also has other roots clean out underneath in center of bottom and gently repot for now don’t water in a few days maybe mist with spring water
