The new #fruit forming is back to normal. #citrus #buddhashand #citrusmedica #digitata #southerncalifornia 30 April 2022
That’s almost creepy 😂😂

This fingered #citron was so #neglected this last year, the fruit is growing #round. This different shape comes from too little fertilizer and too much water. #citrus #buddahshand #citrusmedica #digitata #southerncalifornia March 2022😲
Looks good to me , wish we had the climate to grow citrus well !
Thanks, Julie, it is a blessing to grow citrus. 💞 @juliesgarden
I manage to grow peaches outdoors here in the south of the uk 🇬🇧
Oh, nice. Home grown peaches are delicious. @juliesgarden

Wow! What a weirdo plant!! I love it.
#lookslikeitsname 🖐 Similar in taste to.... ?
What is it😵
Yes, @laneygarden, it is strange. My done calls it a mutant. 😂
Kari, I can't think of a similar taste. 🤔 It is very unique. It does seem like a citrus, but not sharp like others. @KariSamuel 💗
@tythedemon101 it is a unique, delicious, amazing citrus fruit. 😁
Oh now i know what it is thanks for the information😄
It is a very curious fruit. I had never seen it
My pleasure. 💖 @tythedemon101

I have never seen anything like that! Really interesting.
A wild and crazy plant!🤣🤣💘😍
I know you can zest it but, can you eat the pulp? ... is there pulp?
It's so cool and unique how in the world do you find a plant like this? I want oneeee 🤣
@lovestogarden Bonkers 😆 I’m curious to know more about it. Have you tasted it? 🤔
Such a free spirit 😄😄
Wow😄😄😄
Totally bizarre 💛
Oh my 🤭
What does it taste like?
Interesting, unusual, wild and crazy for sure! 💗 😂 @shawnasea @gjones @ShelleySnyder

First two #citron #fruit ready this year. They shall go to my sister as she has been asking for months. 😂 She does a lot of baking and enjoys using it for added flavor (used as lemon zest). #citrusmedica #digitata #buddhashand #citrus-handofbuddha #southerncalifornia 13 November 2019
They are so unusual & I'm surprised I've never seen them over here in Thailand 🤔
Jeff, maybe you need to do a little introduction. 😉 @jeatacake
I'll shake it's hand if I see one! :D

Laura, I use them for anything that would call for lemon peel. My sister does too. I also made candied peel last year too. Their scent is amazing. 😁💞 @columbiariver
They did! Katy, my sister is just pleased as she can be. She wants to bake with them again. 💞 @gjones

The last #Citron for this year has been picked. It is huge, weighing in at almost 2lbs! It would have cost me $15+ to purchase this guy. Part of this will be scones. 😋 #buddahshand #citrus-handofbuddha #citrus #gyo #aromatic #yellow #southerncalifornia #california #mygarden-lovestogarden 29 March 2019
What do you use it for?
Wow, that’s so cool! What does the fruit taste like? Do you dry it to put in your scones. I make my husband cranberry scones almost every week. Been doing this for years, would love the add something new.
@growerguy it can be used in anyway citrus zest is used. I add it to many kinds of baking I do.
@cpl721 have you tried adding orange zest to the scones? It goes very well with cranberries, as do walnuts. I grate this and slice it. It is amazing and so aromatic. It is unique and can't compare the taste to anything else, but can be interchanged with any other citrus peel.
No I have never added anything but cranberries, but I’ll be making them this weekend, and will to try the orange zest. I would love the walnuts, but Rich won’t. I’ll fold some in one for myself. Thanks Janice! I will let you know how we like them. @lovestogarden

We cut the very first #citron from our #tree! The #scent was absolutely amazing. The white inside of the #fruit is not soft, but hard like the outside and tastes great. The flavor of the whole fruit is very unique and great raw, candied, zested and grated. 😋 #firstfruit #buddhashand #citrusmedica #citrus #gyo #southerncalifornia #california 3 January 2019
Wow amazing Janice 😮
What an interesting looking fruit 😄, sounds tasty!
How super!!
That is awesome Janice! Not only do we need a sniff app👃 but now we need a taste app👅!!!
Interesting. I saw them for the first time growing in China. The local supermarket stocked them last year but I did not try them, but will next time they are in season. They remind me of something from Dr Who.
💞 @juliesgarden @richard.spicer.7906 @brightcolours @kimguy - you are so right, Kim. I am sure the are working on adding those features soon. 😉😂💞
@Annettenoosa they look quite crazy growing too-- definitely a Dr. Who look. 😂
How interesting Janice! I'll be on the lookout for some at my grocery stores!💘😍
@ShelleySnyder, I hope you won't be disappointed. 💞
Oh well, we'll see! Been disappointed before! But you sure don't know if you don't taste!🤔😊💘😍

#oddbutpretty - Are those individual fruits or is it all connected at the base? Very cool!
@KariSamuel it is all one fruit and connected at the base. #lookslikeitsname. I will definitely post a 📷 when I finally cut into it and eat it. ❤️
So, Kari, I tried to change my Profile to not be Possible and it will not save. Can you or @usgardentags help me to change this? I must be one of the tech illiterates. 🤤
Love how everything is so green for you, everything outside my window has gotten so sad...ugh winter!
@mardel the green is year round for me and I have always lived this way. I visited Illinois in November one time for a couple of weeks and I found I really looked for colors. It is definitely hard I am sure for you all who have definite seasons to do without it. I know some people here who wish for your seasons. Oh, how the world is made up of many different types. I hope my pictures can help you through your winter. ♥️
I think I fixed my settings! @KariSamuel & @usgardentags, I woke this morning and refilled out my profile and it let me save after the password was done. I think I should have done this after my upgrade to Premium. Thank you for everything! ♥️♥️
@lovestogarden They definitely will ,I never liked summer till i loved into my own home and got a chance to take care of my own yard and garden the things we take for granted. I will wait patiently for summer while sharing all your beautiful photos..thanks love

#citrus #citrusmedica #buddhashand #digitata #southerncalifornia #california 26 August 2018 #sizereference #fruit #gyo
@gjones, yes, they are a citrus. They are just the citrus peel and inside is just the white pith. They are used for their special flavor of zest and can be chopped. This is my first crop, so I am very excited to try them. I use a lot of lemon zest in cooking, so I thought this would be fun to grow. They can also be made into the candied #citron used in fruitcakes. ❤️
Does the zest taste like lemon zest? I've never seen this before, it looks so cool!
My pleasure, @gjones. It is a learning experience for us both. ❤️
@grynnat, I am not sure yet. I can let you know when they ripen. I have seen them sold here for years at our Farmer's Markets and thought, 'why not' when I needed a tree for privacy. I use more lemon zest then juice, so since I already had a lemon, it seemed the perfect plant. The zest is supposed to be is own flavor as different types of lemons have different scents and flavors. More to be known when they ripen! ❤️😀
That's a beauty
Looking forward to the taste tests 😉
@grynnat me too! ❤️

I added diatomaceous earth around the base of my citrus trees to keep the pests off. When they walk through this food-grade powder, they will die. Ants are a huge problem here, so this keeps them at bay. If you are unfamiliar with diatomaceous earth, check this out: https://richsoil.com/diatomaceous-earth.jsp #diatomaceousearth #tip #bugrepellant #bugbegone #citrus #citrus-advice

A Fingered Citron tree is my newest acquisition. I got it to cover our view of the house behind ours and enjoy the lovely zest! (April 2017)
Can you cook with them?
Wow! I love Buddha's hand, reminds me of China 😊
Yes, @Opuntia , the zest can be used in any way lemon zest is used; infusions, extracts, vinaigrettes, breads, marmalade, sauces and to freshen laundry. I read that their smell is extraordinary.
#citrus #Citrusmedica #buddhashand
So much for most of my fruit looking like a the Buddah hand. I am amazed at the quantity of #seeds and actual flesh in this. Neither are in traditional hand-looking fruit. Flavor of zest is slightly different also. Flesh is like damaged frozen #citrus. #buddahshand #digitata #citron #southerncalifornia 9 August 2022
So you eat it I guess... sweet or sour?
#tropicaltuesday
That’s weird I have one too and have never seen that before. Is it grafted maybe 🤔
Oh 🤔
Yes, you can eat it, but very sour and dry. Not pleasant. @lesliecole49
Thank you for the tag @treefrog44
Yes, Katy, Phil and Julie. I asked at my nursery and found out that the tree does this because it is over watered. I had been gone so much last year that I left my auto sprinklers on and it sucked up too much. My oranges tree did also and left the fruit without much flavor. My auto sprinklers are off and fruit should be coming back to correct. My Kumquat tree also produced no fruit. @gjones @philstalder @juliesgarden
Well at least you’ve found the problem 👍🏻
Yes, Julie. A good nursery is invaluable. @juliesgarden
Yes, Katy, I think it may be another year before it rights itself. The garden is an interesting place. 💞 @gjones
