So much for most of my fruit looking like a the Buddah hand. I am amazed at the quantity of #seeds and actual flesh in this. Neither are in traditional hand-looking fruit. Flavor of zest is slightly different also. Flesh is like damaged frozen #citrus. #buddahshand #digitata #citron #southerncalifornia 9 August 2022

Yes, Katy, Phil and Julie. I asked at my nursery and found out that the tree does this because it is over watered. I had been gone so much last year that I left my auto sprinklers on and it sucked up too much. My oranges tree did also and left the fruit without much flavor. My auto sprinklers are off and fruit should be coming back to correct. My Kumquat tree also produced no fruit. @gjones @philstalder @juliesgarden

@cpl721 have you tried adding orange zest to the scones? It goes very well with cranberries, as do walnuts. I grate this and slice it. It is amazing and so aromatic. It is unique and can't compare the taste to anything else, but can be interchanged with any other citrus peel.

@gjones, yes, they are a citrus. They are just the citrus peel and inside is just the white pith. They are used for their special flavor of zest and can be chopped. This is my first crop, so I am very excited to try them. I use a lot of lemon zest in cooking, so I thought this would be fun to grow. They can also be made into the candied #citron used in fruitcakes. ❤️

@grynnat, I am not sure yet. I can let you know when they ripen. I have seen them sold here for years at our Farmer's Markets and thought, 'why not' when I needed a tree for privacy. I use more lemon zest then juice, so since I already had a lemon, it seemed the perfect plant. The zest is supposed to be is own flavor as different types of lemons have different scents and flavors. More to be known when they ripen! ❤️😀

I added diatomaceous earth around the base of my citrus trees to keep the pests off. When they walk through this food-grade powder, they will die. Ants are a huge problem here, so this keeps them at bay.
