@lovestogarden. ...I would say slower growth results in fat stems. (Me nurse thinking cap on) it could have had an injury.... bacterial or viral disease. I had a similar problem when I took the succulent out of the pot. Mrs cutworm was at the bottom getting fatter. Try taking out that section and repotting on its own just to see what happens. Good luck.
