Today was the day to finally begin some much-needed #edging of the front #dymondia margaretae. I will plant each piece cut off from the front to the back. I am pleased with this for my "lawn". I rarely water once established. #silvercarpet #dymondiamargaretae #droughttolerant #southerncalifornia 13 April 2022

Yes, I was that crazy lady out with her flashlight hunting #slugs tonight on the #Dymondia. I used my long pinchers to pick them up -- 190 of them! π€― #slug #pestcontrol-slugs #slugplucking #Dymondiamargaretae #pestcontrol-slugs #pestcontrol #southerncalifornia #california 2 May 2019

Ewwww you go girl!!!

π @nikkicasas π«

Ugh π

Iβm seeing more and more of this type of slug. Whereβve they come from cause we never used to have them before. Are they invaders from another country?

Gross !!! π³π³

Now that's just crazy Janice!!π€¦π€£π€£ππ

I agree! π« Soooo disgusting! @juliesgarden @cyndi @sherrisgarden @Jasonsparkes1 @ShelleySnyder

@pixierose the rain we had has brought our slugs back. We usually have HUGE (4"-5" long) Cellar Slugs (Limacus flavus) here, but as the drought progressed, there were less. This particular slug in my πΈ, Striped Greenhouse Slug (Ambigolimax valentianus) is new. As the name indicates, it is introduced, probably from nurseries. πWe need some birds. π

OMG. 190 of them! π² Hens & hedgehogs are good at controlling them here, if you have them of course, which sadly I don't π

I don't either Jake. I saw a Robin hopping about there in the morning and wondered if they ate the little ones I missed. We have opossums, but apparently they have not been earning their keep. @jeatacake

I saw a thrush yesterday eating a snail, after smashing its shell, but tgere are way too many slugs & snails here & they're a real nuisance in the greenhouse π‘

Starting the planting of the "lawn" of #dymondia in my back garden. I will not have to mow this or water much at all once it is established. #gardenmakeover-lovestogarden #mygarden-lovestogarden #lovestogarden #southerncalifornia #california 20 October 2018

Looks like a lot of work!! Well done I bet itβs going to look great!!π€ππ

It's going to look lovely when it's established.

Thatβll be gorgeous Janice π

That's going to look really good Janice!ππ

I can't wait to see this! It's going to look awesome!!

Thank you so much!! β€οΈ @terrimclaughlin @Soph1e @mich @ShelleySnyder @Yollymac @cyndi You are ALL so sweet. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

#dymondia as grass in my front yard with a wayward Gazania growing. #silvercarpet

That gazania looks lost!! ππππ

Hope in the middle of ocean ππ

π@kipcott it does look lost!

@gauravsh6 , yep, a life raft! ππ

A tiny yellow flower from my new drought-tolerant "lawn".

#yellowflowers

Might be a prettier alternative to my couch grass!
Time for the #Dymondia margaretae, a.k.a., silver carpet to be edged and replanted in the bare areas. The is the front garden. #dymondiamargaretae #silver carpet #droughttolerant #lawnalternative #southerncalifornia 17 August 2024
Thank you, Laura. It should fill in nicely. @columbiariver
