My Southern California (zone 10a) garden has all kinds of plants mixed together; roses, ferns, succulents, vegetables,....

After a long, busy weekend with fun sister time, some rain and cooler temps, it is always nice to puruse the garden and see what has been happening. #polkadotplant #self-seeded #upclose #hypoestesphyllostachya #hypoestes #acanthus #fuzzy #foliage

My #tooeasytuesday entry is Polka Dot Plants. They have been self seeding for years IN ANY PLACE THEY CAN! #hypoestesphyllostachya #polkadotplant

I bought one of these, thinking I could perk it back up, but I don't know that I'm doing very well. It's really leggy, and the leaves are dark, kind of wrinkly and brittle. Its not any worse than when i bought it, but it certainly isnt getting any better. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? #advice

Melissa, it sounds like it is too dry. They usually like some shade and dampness. Mine seem to have adjusted to less water. Try adjusting it's light to only a few hours in the morning and keep soil damp. Their ideal temp is low 70's. Also try cutting branches low and root them in water. The original plant should grow better. Good luck. @dreadsgirl80

Ty, so much! I'll try cutting it back, and watch sun and water level. The new growth on the ends looks somewhat better, but it is just a pitiful looking thing, lol. I'm a sucker for the runts and the 'special' plants. :)

I understand, Melissa, my mother is the same way. She finds great satisfaction from their resuscitation. @dreadsgirl80

When my little boy was 3 I bought him some seeds of this plant when they grew into healthy plants he was thrilled & then wanted to grow more plants & veg. He's 29 now still loves growing things from seed & is keen for his little boy to do the same. All because of this pretty little plant 😊
