Use a wooden skewer to check the compost. If the skewer comes out dirty, don't water it. If it comes out clean, give it a drink and allow it to dry out fully before watering again. Ideally it should be in compost that's around 60-70% horticultural grit and 40-30% compost.
It's hard to say. If anything, give it less than you think it needs at first and water more frequently. You'll figure out what makes it happy pretty quickly.
