Sorry for the bad picture in advance... but this didn’t die back last year and I didn’t prune it at the beginning of spring.. but it has produced new shoots not only on old growth; but also from the base as ‘normal’... my question is do I cut down the old growth now or leave it to carry on even though it looks a bit unsightly?? #advice-verbena #pruning #advice-pruning
You can do either Mary, but if you want it to look tidy then cut it back to the new growth near the base 👍🏼😀
Hi Mary, I have Lollipop and it pretty much died back totally but have quite a few “regular” V Bonn’s that didn’t. If it is really ugly I would cut it back. Let’s be honest you couldn’t kill it even if you wanted to it is such a resilient plant. That said my normal size ones are beginning to flower whereas Lollipop is still thinking about it - maybe in June? -so on balance I would leave it for flowers sooner than later. The bees will thank you!
@tombr @sieveheadsarah thank you both, I think it maybe the normal one that hasn’t died back and the Lollypop one I think has just broke the surface with a couple of leaves.. I’ll keep holding in and see how it goes .. thank you both!!
