How can i keep roses "perky",or last longer after cutting them?

Readers Digest trick. Dissolve 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons white vinegar per quart (liter) of warm water. Also my opinion, change water every few days if bloom is lasting. Oops I forgot. Except for high value vases, I put through dish washer.
