@michaelhortus, I have been thinking about trying my hand with irises, have been told they are a bit tricky to get growing! Lol you made me smile with your comment about some of them being "blouse or twee" because those are the ones I love best, lololol.xx
Hi @kerimyth, of course this is just my personal preference but they certainly do have a place. If you are wanting to grow germanica types then grow them in full sun with the Rhizome above ground and face it south so it's gets the best sun to bake. I plant mine on an inch of grit to allow for good drainage. This with a good seaweed feed will produce the best blousey flowers :) good luck!!
@michaelhortus I stopped by a garden centre the other day and bought 4 bearded Iris , it says they can be planted any time so I thought I would try them, they were only just over a £2 each which surprised me I thought they would be a lot dearer than that! Put pics up of the ones I bought, you don't think it is to late to put them in do you?xx
@kerimyth hi Mary, they were probably cheaper for the garden centre to sell them. Yes I am sure they will be fine as per my last message. I would go as far as saying that I would lay the rhizome on a layer of grit. Water in well and feed every now and again with liquid seaweed. It may not flower but the rhizome will be stronger for it. Happy growing
@Michaelhortus, thank for all your advice! Since buying these on impulse when I saw them I have been on google and have discovered that David Austin's daughter, Claire?? Austin specialises in Bearded Irises, so I am going to save up and buy from her ready for next summer! Some of her's took my breath away! Soooo beautiful ! Xxx
With out a doubt, the most elegant of Irises for me. The richest of colours without being too blousy or twee.
Absolutely stunning - another on my wish list 😃
Blooming brilliant pic #fabplants
They look like velvet
Beautiful
