Planted into border 10.4.18

Would love to set this up as a planter, any ideas on a low level shrub that would complement it nicely? Also I'm not sure how best to protect the wicker if I'm leaving outside? I'll staple plastic lining with holes to the inside and maybe some varnish or spray primer? I really have no idea! #planter #wicker #wicker-planter

Lovely idea for a planter - I would have thought a varnish would be a good idea, make sure you pick up an exterior varnish. Any particular colour in mind for the shrub?

Thankyou @tash74 I was worried varnish would be the answer! Used to slapping chalk paint onto things indoors :) varnish is so fiddly :) think I should tackle the potting bench with varnish too really... Am thinking either a deep red/purple leaf or a small white flowering low laying plant (gypsophelia?) - not even sure that exists :) x

I'm thinking either an acid yellow/green like a euphorbia to contrast. Or how about a lovely dark leaved heuchera to set it off?

According to The Observer Book of Garden Flowers this is a great border plant, I bought this one from a closing down sale and chose it for its country garden feel and supposed aroma #budding #bud #countrygarden
