Ok... you have got to tell me what I’m doing wrong with the orchids! It’s Florida! They should just... thrive! I keep killing the poor things when I get them from Fresh Market😞 I’m embarrassed to buy them anymore🙊 Yours are so gorgeous!!!
@fearlessthereforepowerful Thank you, Christina! I struggled with orchids for a long time! My neighbor has so many beautiful orchids that always seem to be healthy and blooming. After my first year in Florida and MANY dead orchids - I went to her for advice. She laughed and explained that orchids just love being in her tree. 🙄 So, I planted a mango tree and waited impatiently for it to grow tall enough to hold my orchids. I also hung a few in her tree for my “training period”.
@fearlessthereforepowerful The takeaway and what has worked best for me - keep them in sunny areas but completely shaded, high humidity makes them happy, use wooden orchid boxes, and let the rain water do the rest. Check them periodically to ensure they aren’t soaking wet in the center. I found a lot of orchids were actually dying from root rot before I even got them home. Therefore, I was just killing the orchids further and taking all of the blame! What part of Florida are you in? 🤩
Thank you SO much! There’s a nice tree in back of the house where I have a cypress bird feeder. I can put some in there - I stick my air plants on it! There are a few air plants naturally growing on it already, so I put mine there as well. This should be such a nice spot! I’m planting a papaya tree, but that will take forever, this will be nice, it rains here almost every afternoon. As long as we don’t get too cold, I think that will work!
