A mix of #Sunflowers #Jersey-Kale and oh so much coming on a treat .in the circle ⭕️

First attempt ever at growing #Jersey-cabbage, #walkingStick in 14 months I’d say 😜😂 here’s wiki to explain. The '#Jersey #cabbage' develops a long stalk, commonly reaching 6 to 10 feet (1.8 to 3.0 m) in height, and can grow as tall as 18 to 20 feet (5.5 to 6.1 m)Historically the stalks were made into walking sticks, of which 30,000 a year were being sold by the early 20th century, many for export. They were also used for fencing and as rafters. Now there’s one couple growing them.

Great info - is that the one couple or your plot?

Evening @sharonhayden that’s the front garden . Looking out the bedroom window. ( first chance the house Martin’s on the window fledge a couple of days ago 👀📸 ) hey Laura @columbiariver it’s exploded in the past week with the rain were finally getting her. How’s your neck of the woods? X

Looks great and very different to next doors 😂

Wow! Just read what you submitted about this in the gt encyclopedia. Interesting history & fitting name for this #cabbage. 😃

Hello @novicegardenlover , All Wikipedia I’m afraid 😬😊 really interesting, I remember them as a kid .. lovely Gent on jersey gave me the seeds at Christmas to see how they’re fair in Scotland... plus the Portuguese version.

Still great that you shared it. Never would have thought that a cabbage stalk could be used in such ways.

The Jersey cabbage (Brassica oleracea longata) is a variety of cabbage native to the Channel Islands that grows to a great height and was formerly commonly used there as livestock fodder and for making walking sticks. It is also known as Jersey kale or cow cabbage, and by a variety of local names including giant cabbage, long jacks, tree cabbage and the French chour and chou à vacque. Also a quick growing fence in my case hopefully to keep the dog in..... 😬😊🤫😂 sown 8th feb 2019
