You might want to repot him in some nicer compost. So many succulents come in poor quality compost that they won't thrive in.

I usually use Jack's Magic compost and mix in some fine horticultural grit. Any compost that doesn't contain feed/watering retaining granules should be fine. I'd aim for a mix of around 50% compost to 50% grit (you could go slightly higher one way or the other, although I generally favour a grittier mix).
