Dreary day brightened by arrival from Marshalls of #onion #sturon & #showmaster plants. Must get them into pots in the greenhouse now - plant out end of month.
I've never thought to buy onions as plants, I've always planted sets but Sturon is my onion of choice. Let me know how you get on with them, presumably they're destined for the show bench? 🎖️
@tash74 I'm no good with onion seed, and sets give me very variable results. I've found Marshalls plants to be very reliable and productive in the past... Fingers crossed for this year! Headed for the table, not the show 🍽

Interesting that Marshalls advise planting Sturon in clumps of 3-5 as commercial growers do. #FYI #Advice_Onions. Both varieties planted in cells in the #greenhouse now.

Do you think these onion sets growing nicely now, which did nothing last year (grew a bit of green) will grow this year, or will they go straight to seed? Same question about shallots. Thanks in anticipation, Mike
