How long did they take to grow to that length? How do you start them off (plant/seed/cutting?)

@DigInIt Duncan, I'm going to be less precise than you might want. I bought quite a small plant several years ago but don't remember the variety. I chose a non-invasive but tall growing type. It's now quite large, mane 1.5m diameter clump. I think the canes grow high quite fast (one season), but may take a while to thicken. I'll observe more closely this year and post the occasional update. There are many healthy new canes already ~0.5m tall this year. I hope that helps. #advice

Help me identify this plant please. It's a bamboo and it is about 10ft tall. I'm harvesting some tomorrow to use later for the runner beans.
