I live to the south of Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire. Somewhat overcome by the work needed in the garden, I share bits of it! Twitter @oldgreyheron

Just wandered down the garden (for the first time after our visit to meet our first grandchild, a lovely girl, Kiri). Found all the crab apples starting to fall. Work to do now! I’ll have to learn how to make crab apple jelly as Sandra is off down South to help our daughter for a week or so!

@jaynehynesburton The only thing we've made is crab apple jelly. We've not always been successful but when we get it right it's very tasty!

I've zoomed in on the stem part of the diseased branch tip. You can see lichen I think on the swollen wood. If I handle the damaged tips they just drop off. I'll look further back and take photos of appropriate tomorrow.

I would use a fungicide called copper it's an all rounder. A week later use an insecticide to knock out any aphids. 😀

Thanks James. I'm guessing that copper is a generic chemical name for some sort of copper salt concentrate. I'll visit the garden centre later to see what's there. @GREENFINGERSLTD

James, I've tried to buy copper based fungicide this morning but my local garden centres say they are no longer allowed to sell fungicides of that type. @GREENFINGERSLTD . I'll try a general purpose fruit tree compatible fungicide that I bought last year. Thanks for the advice... Maybe only available to professional gardeners.

I think try or phone another garden centre copper spray is not dangerous 🙂

It does look as thought it's some sort of rot @kathy that could well be to do with the incessantly damp weather. 🌧💧☹️

GREENFINGERSLTD

It looks like Brown rot, I can see canker on branch I don't think it's fire blight without seeing the whole length of the branch @tiggrx any thoughts 😀
