@pelly lovely clematis with a great name. I am looking for a good winter clematis so really can’t accommodate this one as well. I now have just a balcony for plants having moved to a flat. Really could no longer cope with the garden. However there is a large garden here to make use of and it’s kept by others so I can just enjoy it.

Red is a good colour to have for winter, I need to look at some small shrubs for winter colour, it’s something I’ve never done even though every year I say I’m going to 🙄

I think it is, the petals on this are much thicker than on most clematises so it looks different to yours but I really hope this is your problem 🤔 @italydiva

It's a deformed clematis flower Charlotte. I've just learned something new tonight, it's called green petal 😊 @charlotte

Yes it did Katy. The first two or three flowers do this usually then it flowers normally. I learned last night that the condition is called green petal 👍 @gjones

Another difference Jane is that yours appears to be in recognisable flower form/format. Mine isn’t 🤔 I guess time will tell, just a case of waiting and watching. I shall let you know when the other bud opens 😊

I’ve put Clematis Early Sensation at the bottom of it, which is evergreen so hopefully that will cover up the bare bits and apparently it has beautiful seed heads. I’ve never seen greenfly on mine though @juliesgarden 😍😍

Isn't this what they normally look like during winter? My neighbour has a group 3 clematis and it always looks tatty after winter. That's why I was put off buying clematis until this year 😊

Had a few problems with it last year and until I found the buds I just assumed it was dead Urszula, it now turns out it's not so I'm a happy bunny as it was quite expensive. @ublaszko 😊😊

I just bought my first clematis so I'm not familiar with it other than seeing it on Gardener's World. I feel like it's going to become my new obsession though 😁😁

Mine are starting aswell but I feel really scared to prune plus my Princess Charlotte on label said it was group 3 and now on Crocus site they say it's a group 2 🤔 Totally confused!

There was an episode of Gardener's World about a gentleman who has 400 varieties of clematis and it changed my mind when I saw the smaller flowering ones. At the moment I really like the look of alpina varieties 😍😍😍 @pelly

I just looked it up and it's main flowering season is high summer so I'd say it's group 2 (although it's supposed to have the 2nd flowering in autumn). I watched this programme with Alan Titchmarsh 'Gardener's Year. Early spring' (on YouTube) and he goes over how to prune clematis including the ones that have two flowering times. Worth watching! @Diane76

No not really I did do what Rachel @rachelbrooks suggested by taking the dead flowers off so many of them and as fast as I'm doing it more are dying the funny thing though the leaves look fine so going to leave it and give it a good prune later see what happens next year I don't know if to plant another one near it in case there is something wrong that attacks it @pelly 😘

Gawjus Jane best time to feed clematis is when they are growing before they flower then you get bigger buds apparently or so Monty said on GW 👍

I wouldn't panic too much mi amiga. I would imagine the heavy rain/super hot/heavy rain combo hasn't helped! I noticed yesterday that two of mine seem to have died! My Rebecca from last year and one of my new ones! 😱😥
