There are a few variegated forms of Fatsia japonica. 'Spiders web' has become very popular in recent years and there is a cream-bordered form usually called 'variegata'. This one is variously called 'Anneliese', 'Annelise' or 'Annemieke'. I quite like the way the tonal variegation is all in shades of green.

Hi Marj. Is it the spiders web type you have, or the plain green Fatsia japonica? I only ask because, for me, spiders web is slower growing and a more compact shrub than the type, so I've never had to prune it (though deer did give it a good grazing one Spring, and it recovered quickly). With the plain green Fatsia, I cut back in April if it is getting too boisterous.
