Begonia maculata 'Raddi'

😞 any idea what could be wrong? the (new) leaf turned into a zombie... the plant is in water, coz it's a new cutting (i think i can put it in soil already... but i'm just too afraid to do anything right now 🤔) #help #begonia

Possibly age or Bacteria. water looked cloudy. Keep water changed often place handful copper pennies in water. Copper is antibacterial & antifungal. Remove leaf by cutting near stem. Look for discoloration specks in stem. Good luck. @pewpewpew

@gjones I do propagate them with pieces of leaf, this time i tried it with a cutting for the first time... well, i will probably try to put it in soil, can't get worse :D

@moore.794 i change the water often, actually the glass is a bit opaque, that's why i put cuttings in it... and the leaf was new (i uploaded a photo of it maybe a week ago) :( but i removed it near the stem and as i said, i will try to put it in soil :) thank you.

You will get new leaf at leaf axil. Leaf you cut is a goner just keep stem alive @pewpewpew

It looks like the stem is ok I would cut the leaf of and put the stem in a pot of compost. You can get a few plants from one leaf cut up a sertain way maybe it would be worth getting a few more leaf cuttings as not all of them make it. I'll find mine I done and tag you. 👍

@kimmy01 as i said - i usually do it the same way like you, but i got a cutting with a nice stem, so i tried the "conservative" way :D

The copper works as a fungicide & bacteriacide. By putting pennies in water hopefully will cure problem. Needs to cure before potted. Potting would add stress to cutting because needs to grow all new root hairs to asorb nutrients @pewpewpew @kimmy01

@moore.794 it already has roots 🤷‍♀️ they look good, just the leaves are a bit weird (the worse one is gone already)

Those are water roots. Soil roots have roothairs. They are what asorb nutrients & water. That is why it is best to root in soil. By transplanting now will cause stress to a sick plant. The copper should cure & allow you toplant a healthy rooted cutting. @pewpewpew
