@milktealogy they need to be planted in full, all day sun to stay as dark as possible. Also, planting in shallow water seems to help with the coloring as well. New leaves always come in green, and with enough sun, should change to purple, and then to black. Mine have never, in 3 years, been solid black though. The leaves are always dappled with spots of green and purple.
One of my favorite things in my garden. They were an anniversary present 3 years ago, and they are magestic! Pictures really do not do them justice.
I just got 2 varieties (flea market). New plant for me. Is yours a water hog?

Hi can I ask how you keep your beautiful black magic leaves black? Mine turned green and I’m confused as to why it happened.
