I'm pretty sure ours die😭 I thought it might be in dormancy but I see everyone's still has leaves. Mine has died back completely..
Where do you keep yours? @demeterstouch
I put in on the bottom shelf of my greenhouse in the shade /: @PunkyKy
It needs to stay cool...not warm... @demeterstouch is your greenhouse warm...heated?
No, the only major heat source is the vent at in the top of the wall. But other than that it's relatively cool in the gardening room vs the rest of the apartment @PunkyKy
Where do you live...how cold does it get outside? You maybe killing it cause it's not cool enough to go through dormancy. @demeterstouch I keep mine outside..they can even come back from freezes.
Iowa, I'm probably killing/already killed it 😭😭😭😭 @PunkyKy
Awww...poor thing! @demeterstouch it's ok....it happens
Certainly can't wait until spring lol @PunkyKy

I have a question: How long does the plant live? @PunkyKy
Indefinitely or for however long the conditions are favorable for the fly trap. @kimguy alot of time people.dont know the proper way of taking care of them and they die quickly. Some don't know about the #dormancy period a venus fly trap must go through to continue its long life.
Thanks Kyla. You have me some good info. I've known people that had them but they didn't live long at all😣
They don't make good house plants! @kimguy people like to keep them in the house...but that's not where they will thrive. The need plenty of bright sunlight and moisture...rain, distilled, or reverse osmosis water only! No regular soil...only peat (non fertilized) ,perlite and or horticultural sand. No river sand or play box sand. And the dormancy period is a must. @kimguy

Lol....I love these so much! @cyndi
What do you have the pot on, is it a bed of wet rocks? Are you growing as an indoor or outdoor plant? When I brought mine home from the store, all of the stems on my plant wilted and turned brown. Any advice?
I have the pot on sphagnum moss...i grow it as an outdoor plant...they don't do very well inside because they need lots of sunlight and winter dormancy. @kaigia they need only rain water or distilled water..or reverse osmosis water...no tap water...
Also did you change the soil? They need a certain mix of soil. @kaigia
I have it in the same soil that it came in from the store, a moss mix. Unfortunately, it's winter where I live, so it has to be indoors for now. I have it under a grow light. I collected rain water from the summer to water it. The brown stems, I cut off and there is new growth, but they are very small. I cannot see any new traps forming yet.
It needs to be kept cool in the winter time...they are very frost hardy and can even survive outside during the winter....they need to go into a.dormany period...they do not need to be kept.warm in the.winter. @kaigia
Hi!how are you?Have you started Christmas decorations??😊😊
Hi! I'm good. I kinda have....im doing the nightmare before Christmas theme so I have kept up some.of my Halloween decor and am going to add.some.christmas stuff.to it. Last year I had nightmare before Christmas Christmas tree...the same this year. I just love Jack Skellington. @SHEETAL
www.flytrapcare.com/venus-fly-trap-dormancy. I had no idea until you told me that they need a winter rest. Thanks!😀
Thanks for the link...I should have sent you one...lol @kaigia

Here are what the leftovers look like after fly trap is finished digesting the bug. #venusflytrap #bug #bugeating #carnivorous #trap #leftoverlunch #exoskeleton #venusflytrap-tip
@PunkyKy aww! Geez! That don't look so bad! 🤣💘😍
@PunkyKy. I learn something new everyday!🎃
Yummy yum! ☺ @scaryskates
Cool huh? @kimguy
I know! ☺💗 @scaryskates
Yes it is!
What happens to the leftovers? Do they build up over time or slowly digest?
They get washed away by the rain. Or you can carefully, I mean carefully knock them out with a toothpick. @FieryJude

Hello @PunkyKy can you please tell me what you use for medium? I have a Venus fly trap, octopus plant, and a pitcher plant. I tried YouTube but, they were all different. I’m in Oklahoma City. I’m not sure what zone that is. Thank you!
Hi there Andie! I use peat moss ....plain peat moss....with no added fertilizers or anything.....and perlite. I use 80%peat to 20%perlite and my plants seem to thrive! ☺👄😍 @andiegail2002
Thank you so much! I’m going to have to try that. I had so much stuff in mine. I’m bringing them in for the cooler weather. They need a little pick me up.
@PunkyKy do you have them inside or outside? Window? Light? Sorry, I’ve been babying mine forever. Yours look happy and healthy.
They can stay outside all winter just protect from them frost. They need the cold to go dormant. @andiegail2002
Mine are outside @andiegail2002
@PunkyKy thanks again! How cold is to cold? Or does that matter? It feels weird keeping them outside.
Venus fly traps are native to north and south Carolina it can get pretty cold there during the winter and they come back....if you feel too bad about keeping out side keep them in a cool garage where they are out if the weather but still cool. I'll have to check on the sundew...what kind do you have? You may be able to being that one in. Some Sundews don't go dormant. @andiegail2002

Fabulous 👌💜👍😍
I always kill those. Better luck with yours!
Thank you Jeff! I just feed her this morning, a little moth. I wish you could post videos on here! 📹 That would be so 😎cool! @jeatacake
I'm sorry about your luck with them Allie. 😭 I seem to be having very good luck with my first one I bought in the late spring/early summer. So hopefully I'll have luck with this one. ☘ @Putzy
It would but got to feel sorry for the moth, although I wouldn't be with a fly! Maybe it's worth a mention to the "Powers that be" at GT?
It's not a big pretty moth.... It may not even be a moth.... Just a little light loving bug that was easy to catch. Lol. @jeatacake
They've always interested me there's some amazing plants out there!!! You look young! You should take a class or two at ur local community college I bet you'd get hooked. I did but it's alittle to late for me but I've went since 2011 taken just about every type of horticulture, agronomy you should just check into it. Enjoy your trip into your adventure of the horticulture world. You already know a lot and I tried succulents and failed big time you really need to know your stuff
Lol Kyla. I feel so much better now! 😝 😁
@Putzy next time you try them, make sure to use nutrient free soil (I'm using sphagnum moss currently) and distilled water. They get their nutrients from feeding and don't need all the extra stuff and will actually kill them off.
Thank you @terrimclaughlin ..... I've been doing so much studying 📕and research 💻 since I have gotten in to gardening. 🏡 I would love to take a class or two! I think that would be so much fun! 🏃 I am enjoying this so much! 🌸💐🌱🌵

They are so cool cyndi! 😎 @cyndi
Got to have another go with these again some time soon! 😀
That is awesome Jeff! I hope you have good luck with them! 💖 @jeatacake
It's several years since I had one, but maybe I will take more care with one this time. There are certainly enough flies 😀😀😀
They do take some attention. I intend to put mine in a bog garden soon! @jeatacake
Sounds interesting, but can they survive freezing in winter outside?
Yes.... They require a dormancy period..... They come back in the spring. @jeatacake
Maybe I should not have tried keeping it warm in winter?
Yes they are John! I'm just fascinated by them.... I want more for my collection!💞 @ukjohnny
