Good morning everyone! I've waited a long time to capture the true colour of this hibiscus. It was tricky because the dark colour, it's 2-hour lifespan and the morning sun didn't work well together. But here it is, finally! #cranberryhibiscus #hibiscus #african

Morning what a beauty such lovely colour 👌👌👌

Wow what an amazing colour absolutely stunning❤️❤️

Thanks @sue1953 !! The buds are just as pretty (photo in a minute)

Reminds me of red velvet @pushkraj

Feels like it too, @jolene :)

A puckered up #hibiscus for your inspection @gjones :)

Wikipedia tells me it blooms for a few hours @gjones .... And the foliage is exactly why I have four of these plants!!! Acers and the like aren't sold here, and this plant is a lookalike. It's new in the Indian market too - never seen before!
Lovely shrub 👍

The first of many 🌺! It wilted within a mere 3 hours. Good morning everyone! #hibiscus #upclose

Good morning shame it didn't last its a beauty 👌

❤❤❤

What a colour! #redhibiscus

It was a surprise to me too! I'd been told by the nursery that the flowers are fragile, but I mistook their words to mean that the petals come off easily. The temperature was about 15C. @gjones

The flowers pucker up in an unusual way @gjones ... snaps to follow soon

I've 4 of these African rosemallows, all of which are budding! This is a stunning substitute for regions where acer is not available. #african #rosemallow #bud

Think I've just been given some prunings for cuttings!!

Good luck with them!!

So far, so good. About two weeks old now.
The one on top is a bud and the one at the bottom is a faded bloom. Makes deadheading all the more heartbreaking :/ #hibiscus #bud #winter #upclose #macro
@sue1953
Oops you could cut the wrong one 😁
Exactly, @gjones - I wait a bit before plucking spent blooms.. besides, I've noticed the faded ones are slightly larger with an exposed green centre :)
We have a plant similar this here in Jamaica called #Sorrel. We use it to make a nice beverage during the festive season of Christmas.
I've heard of it @Jason :)
Hibiscus acetosella (cranberry hibiscus or African rosemallow) is an angiosperm of the genus Hibiscus or rosemallow. The word acetosella is of Latin origin and is derived from an old name for #sorrel (Oxalis) which comes from the sour taste experienced when eating the young leaves of the plant.Hibiscus acetosella is also known colloquially as false roselle, maroon mallow, red leaved hibiscus, and red shield hibiscus.
