Is this coir based compost? How do you find it? I'm always wondering what is a good compost to use. I tried coir compost once in my borders but it got mouldy 😕

@ublaszko I'm not sure, it was the starter kit with the fluffy mix when you add water to the block lol

It's coir 😊 I might try a small bag and give it a go in pots first.

Oh I'm sorry I forgot I mixed in some denser clay mix organic compost from the dollar tree. It says all purpose potting soil. Although it feels very heavy and has good clumps of clay mixed in, I used it to blend with the starter soil. I hope this helps ☆ @ublaszko

@ublaszko it is mostly the coir mix on top because of the fact that it doesn't dry up like the other denser potting soil I mixed it with. So I layers more of the coir on top to help and to keep it looking nice ;) the all purpose potting soil dries out QUICK :/ But hey, it was only $1 for 8lbs lol

I guess that would make sense then why the coir compost got mouldy if it holds on to moisture. In fact, I just remembered I had a peony growing in a pot with coir compost and the peony rotted away. Probably best to use it on moisture loving plants that do not rot easily. 😅 I was trying out compost with John Innes nr 3 last year but I found it didn't hold onto moisture any better than normal potting compost.
