Lilium lancifolium 'Flore Pleno'. Photographed, 7 August 2017, at Reedie Cottage Gardens, East Scotland. Also known as Double Tiger Lily or Double-Flowered Devil Lily. 'Flore Pleno' is a vigorous stem-rooting bulbous perennial with dark purple stems, narrow, alternate leaves and fully double, nodding, orange-red flowers spotted with purple, in late Summer and early Autumn. Grows to about 1.5m tall, and very quick to bulk up. #lilium #lancifolium #FlorePleno #orangeredflowers #reediecottagegarden
@keely The do look very exotic! They are really hardy, and have done really well here, in the Angus Glens!!! I have a Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' at the back of these, so they really stand out!!! From the angle that I took this photo, you can see my Osmanthus burkwoodii, behind them. Still makes them stand out tho! 😀 Really easy to grow btw, and very hardy too 😀
Will go great in my hot bed need another tall plant like my cannas 🌺👌 thank you for info really helpful as weather not too hot in Yorkshire so anything too exotic wouldn't work for me 😃
@richard.spicer.7906 I've also found it the least effected by powdery mildew, that can effect other lilies. Yes, I've grown new plants from the bulbils, but took quite a long time to get the new plants to flower, but they eventually did. Not sure but it took over 5yrs to get flowers. The established plants in the garden have bulked up year on year, so actually easier to get new plants by division instead. Definitely recommend this variety. Grows really well here in Angus Glens, Scotland 😀
Interesting points, and thanks 👍🏼. I've got mine in a pot at the moment (3 bulbs). I guess it won't be too long before they clump up - long term I want to put them in the ground but just haven't found the right spot for them yet. I'll investigate the bulbils - your right though, it would no doubt take ages to reach flowering size. They can sit next to my hellebore seedlings long term for company as they will probably be there for that long too 😂

Beauties! I found this one was the least affected by lily beetles out of the six I have. Have you tried growing the small bulbils that form?
