One of my #Agapanthus has set #seed - never thought about saving it as it's a good size clump and already have plenty others. But has anyone have any experience growing them from seed? 🤔 #agapanthusheadbournehybrids
Richard.spicer.7906 yes Richard they grow so easily make sure you have enough friends to pass them on too.thats how I started my agapanthus collection with on stolen seed pod
Non-sterile Agapanthus is on the weed list in various parts of Australia because it grows so well from seed. #agapanthus-seed
Lovely pic.
@bright colours and also in Scotland
@richard.spicer.7906 I've grown some from seed that my sister in law bought back from Australia. They took 4 years to produce a flower but are getting stronger each year. Good luck 😀
I have a tray on my kitchen window sill that have just germinated, I set them 3 weeks ago, I read different advice on the internet some said sow straight away, others wait to spring. Will see how it goes.
Well I guess I'm not gonna have time to do anything with them this side of Christmas so they'll probably just stay where they are. But I'll keep an eye on them and see if they germinate in the surrounding soil. Thanks for your advice everyone @KatieCat @bluebell66 @lisa868

Yes they get into our bush and takeover our natives.

And here it is about two weeks ago. Not bad for a 20year old plant - it's followed me in every house I've ever lived in 😊💙 #agapanthus #blue #specialplant #agapanthusheadbournehybrids
Lovely💙 is it in a pot or in the ground Richard? I've been unsuccessful with both and have now given up😢
Looking good 👌👏🏼🕵🏻

Bit late posting these but my old agapanthus has had its best year in flower for a long time. This was about 3 weeks ago. #agapanthus #agapanthusheadbournehybrids
Lots of stems yay ! 👏👏
Totally beautiful 😍
Do you dig it up in winter and move indoors?
Great photo @Richard 📷👏🏽💜
Fab photo
I have one but its not thriving
Hi @Ricki - I tend to leave this particular variety in the ground/pot over winter. It's been tough as old boots! 😀 this one is not an evergreen variety so does back and regrow stage following spring. I realise this is not a general rule as some other agapanthus varieties are more tender than others.
Hi @barbbrown - just had a look at your agapanthus photo. It looks healthy so I wouldn't worry, it might just need another year to fill out the pot. Keep it watered and fed as you are door and hopefully next year it will throw up a few more flowers. The key is to keep the roots quite restricted as this encourages flowering, even if it looks pot bound 😊👍🏼

My old faithful agapanthus is looking so healthy this year after I planted it back in the ground. This has been in and out of the ground and pots so many times over the last 20 years! Over 10 buds on it now 😁 #agapanthusheadbournehybrids #agapanthus
That's reassuring Richard, mine is about the same stage in bud. Thought it was a bit late, but should be worth the wait.
I was told to keep it in a pot to stop it taking over your garden, is this not the case?
So exciting Richard. My freebie from neighbour was put in garden 3 weeks ago and has buds on . Yay !!
So glad you out a picture on, I thought I had killed mine off, but it just seemed to come back to life and has 6 buds on, previously only had three! Mines at the same stage so that's reassuring! :)
Have just planted one of these
In my garden, any tips much appreciated. Don't u love it when u hit send by accident.
Just counted the buds on mine 10 so far and more to come (I hope!)
Mine looks quite good this year too, haven't counted the buds for a while, but there were about 14 at the last count, I brought the plant back from Madeira many years ago (in its dormant state.
I often think some plants need the garden to grow properly
Yes you are right
How lovely 💙

A few pics from the garden this Easter weekend. This is the only Agapanthus I have in the ground (the rest are in pots), and he's starting to wake up - I've had him over 20 years 😀#oldreliable #agapanthusheadbournehybrids
😄👏🏻
#agapanthus
#newgrowth
One of mine in the ground seems to have a lot of its roots showing... Don't know whether to throw stuff on top of it or dig it up and rebury it. What would you do? 👍

Two is better than none 😃
That's quite true @justin - i'm lucky it's flowering at all!

Hmm, leaves look a little streaky. I did already feed it about a month ago. Anyone have any thoughts on why this might happen? Its positioned in full sun, well drained. #agapanthus #agapanthusheadbournehybrids

I bought this agapanthus from B&Q stores when I was a just a teenager, and it’s got to be between 25-30 years old now. It has come with me to every garden I’ve ever lived with and it’s looking it’s best right now. #agapanthus #agapanthusheadbournehybrids
Wow! That's awesome 💜
I love a #plantstory
Well, that’s a special one!! Any school over there this fall????
That's truly amazing I never knew they could last that long. Very pretty. Mine is tall and getting ready to burst into flower 💜💜💙
Gorgeous just like you x x x
Wow! Can't believe the age of that. I kill plants moving pots let alone moving house 😂
That’s incredible. Good to know they can thrive for so long 👌
That's fantastic Richard!💘😍
Thanks everyone! I just remember seeing one as a kid and thinking wow that’s a fantastic plant and then was fortunate to find one in the store whilst mum/dad where looking at other things. It took ages to get to flowering size, although everything seems much longer when your that age! 😆 @columbiariver @gjones @ShelleySnyder @italydiva @craigh7 @clipperty @midnightgardener @terrimclaughlin @flan1971 @novicegardenlover
No school/college right now Terri, due to Covid. My RHS exams were postponed to September but I’m not that optimistic that they will go ahead. We will see. Hope you are well though, haven’t seen you here for a while @terrimclaughlin
My pleasure Richard!💘😍
