03/08/19 - starting to see the benefits of my agapanthus babies, most of which I bought as plug plants over three years ago. I think I finally have at least one flower bud on each one 🤗. And they haven’t disappointed, I spent ages hunting down a nice mauve/lilac one, and chose ‘Liam’s Lilac’ and I have to say it’s absolutely beautiful 💜💜 - just need next year to have a few more flowers #agapanthus #agapanthusliamslilac
Do you have them in pots Rich? My four blue ones had one spike each last year, but only one has flowered this year whereas my two new (last year) Twisters both have one spike each already 🤔🤔
I do Jane, for the time being. Needs a repot soon though (if I can get them out without breaking them 😂) hoping to eventually plant them in the ground but was waiting till they are big enough to cope with winter as I’d read some are on the tender side but better when established @pelly
😊 they were a lot cheaper as plugs, albeit I knew they’d take longer to establish and flower. Kind of ignored them for most of the last couple of years so nice to see them finally starting to bloom @lovemygarden65
Possibly, I remember an aga specialist telling me once before to keep repotting every year to start with, then every two/three years till it gets to the size you want then just give an annual top dress. I’m planning to aim towards a 30cm pot max @pelly
@pelly Hi Jane - here’s a link from the nursery that I get all my agapanthus from, they are a national collection holder and appear at a lot of the shows. It’s where the initial advice came from so thought it would be an interesting read for you (last paragraph gives tips on repotting). https://somethingforthegarden.co.uk/agapanthus-grow-propagate/
Thanks very much Rich, it looks like I'm doing a lot wrong 🙄 I've saved the article so that I can refer to it when the plants die back and hopefully give them the care they deserve 👍😘
It's raining cats and dogs outside tonight. Time to share some more new plants from my garden 🤓. Here is one of a few new Agapanthus - 'Liam's Lilac'. As the name suggests, has lovely lilac coloured trumpets fairly late in summer. Photo was taken about a month after potting up, it's deciduous so just starting to get ready for winter #agapanthus #agapanthusliamslilac
@debs69 I know what you mean - one of mine arrived bare rooted although it still had some leaves attached so was easy to tell. Can you see any remnants of leaves on yours?
What variety is it Pearl? And is it evergreen or deciduous? Some are frost tender so Be careful if you plant it out now as you may need to give it some protection. All mine, bar one, are deciduous so I'll overwinter them in their pots in the garage. The evergreen one is going in the shed (glass door so it will still get some light) 👍🏼 @fuschia

It’s absolutely gorgeous Rich 💜💜
Thanks Jane, the photo really doesn’t do it justice @pelly
You’ve got great patience 💜

I know they like their roots restricted but I'm wondering whether they would benefit from a slightly bigger pot, if, like you I can get them out!! 😱😰

Ahh right, thanks for the advice Rich, I’ll see what I can do 👍👍
